At Acomb First School, we aim to engage pupils in an enquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.
Our RE curriculum is designed to engage and enthuse learners. We believe that it is an essential area of study which ensures that children are well prepared for life in a world where there are a multitude of viewpoints. We enable the children to make their own informed decisions and to have the confidence to voice their views. It is a subject for all pupils, whatever their own family background and personal beliefs and practices.
Withdrawal from Religious Education
At Acomb First School, Religious Education (RE) is taught in line with the Northumberland Agreed Syllabus and is an important part of our broad and balanced curriculum. RE enables children to learn about, and from, different religions, beliefs, and worldviews, helping them to develop respect, tolerance, and understanding of others.
However, parents/carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE. If you wish to exercise this right, we ask that you contact the Headteacher in writing to discuss your request. While we respect this parental right, we encourage open dialogue so that we can fully explain the aims and value of RE within our school.
Children who are withdrawn will be provided with appropriate alternative provision during RE lessons.
