School Development Plan

Our School Development Plan 2025–2026

Each year we set clear priorities to make sure every child at our school gets the very best start to their learning journey. For 2025–2026, we are focusing on three big areas:

1. Building Strong Writing Foundations

We want all children to become confident writers with neat handwriting, accurate spelling, and good sentence skills.
What this means for your child:

  • Clear expectations for handwriting and spelling at every stage
  • Support and practice across all subjects, not just in English
  • Teachers working closely together so writing is taught in the same way across the school
  • Regular checks and feedback to make sure progress is being made

2. Making the Most of Every Subject

Every subject has its own way of thinking – like investigating in Science, sequencing in History, or classifying in Geography. We are helping children understand and use these skills from an early age.
What this means for your child:

  • More opportunities to explore, ask questions, and discover
  • Hands-on learning through stories, artefacts, local visits, and experiments
  • A clear focus on subject-specific skills as well as knowledge
  • Staff training to make lessons more exciting and challenging

3. Growing Confident Speakers

We believe that learning to listen, talk, and present ideas clearly is just as important as reading and writing.
What this means for your child:

  • Daily opportunities to practise speaking and listening in lessons
  • Activities like circle time, performances, and class discussions
  • A clear pathway showing how speaking skills develop from Early Years through to Year 4/5
  • More chances for children to share their opinions and take part in school life

How We Check Progress

  • School leaders regularly look at children’s work and visit classrooms
  • Children are asked about their learning and given chances to share their views
  • Parents are kept up to date through newsletters, workshops, and home learning links
  • Governors review progress and hold us to account

Together, these priorities will help our children become confident learners, curious thinkers, and respectful communicators.
